I second Justin's remarks. I see our little area of South Dakota preparing ourselves for exactly "the new feudalism" Bro. describes above. Other small Catholic areas are preparing likewise.

However, while we still have the opportunity, our patriotic duty (and our Catholic obligation as lay people) must be to save our Constitutional system. God willing, I believe we can do that, but it will take far more work on our part, than most are giving at this point in time. Gary

Thank you, Justin, for your kind words. One thing I noticed when I came to SBC and spoke to Brother Francis was that these folks were not wringing their hands and asking each other, "have you heard the latest?" There is a certain knowledge of the tragic state of affairs all around us, but there was also a sense of purpose directing everyone toward something higher. Brother Francis was also a man conspicuous for his spiritual joy.

The bottom line is that we must imitate those saints who welcomed the barbarian hordes as both a punishment for sin, and an opportunity for the Church to evangelize. Suffering will be good for us, and push us to keep our eye on the "one thing necessary" and how to obtain it.

Brother Andre Marie-

What an inspiring post. One of the great things about your website is that, unlike some other traditional Catholic ones, you guys tend to look on the bright side of things and discuss the spiritual life rather than to focus ( in my opinion at least) excessively on all the scandals in the Church and the world.

Before you mentioned that Diane Mozcar was talking about Rome I honestly thought she was describing the USA or the West in general. History does repeat itself you know.

Despite the storm clouds gathering on the horizon here in the USA and elsewhere in the West, from the spiritual perspective there seems to be more sunshine than anything else. What better environment than that of the chaos of a rapidly disintegrating empire to bring people back to Christ and His only Church?

Thanks for all you do at SBC.
