Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner Hosts McCain and Obama

Someone told me after Mass yesterday that this same Foundation Dinner, which is an annual event, refused to invite John Kerry in 2004 because as a Catholic presidential candidate he would not renounce his pro abortion platform. The Dinner was canceled that year when George W. Bush declined to come without his rival. It is the Foundation’s tradition to host the two major party candidates every four years. However, this year the Foundation did not only invite John McCain but radical pro-abortionist Barack Obama as well. I suppose Senator Obama’s not being Catholic made him less unworthy than Senator Kerry. Is the crime of abortion less of a crime when facilitated by non-Catholic legislators than Catholic ones? And what shall we think of the Cardinal of New York sitting at table between the two candidates sharing laughs on public television? This is the same cardinal who made such strong public statements recently concerning the gravity of sin involved when a Catholic legislator votes in favor of abortion. Well, the highly popular event does raise lots of money for Catholic charities. At this price? No wonder Catholic Democrats continue to wallow in self-deception.

Lifenews.com reports: Recently, the Archdiocese of New York held its famous Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, with both Senators John McCain and Barack Obama as guests. I watched the coverage today — the story is all over the news, along with images of Obama and Edward Cardinal Egan sharing a laugh. Full article here.
