Anglican Measure the Fruit of Dominicans at Prayer

A Dominican nun friend at the cloistered Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary in Summit, New Jersey, included me in an email bringing people’s attention to a wonderful and edifying fact. Archbishop Joseph Augustine Di Noia, O.P. (who was mysteriously present at the press conference on Tuesday), had asked the whole Dominican family to pray for a secret intention back in February of this year. He requested they pray the litany of Dominican saints (not short!) for this intention, which he impressed upon them was of great importance. Turns out, the “personal ordinariate” solution for the Anglicans was the secret intention.

One of the Nuns writes:

Immediately on receiving this communication in February … Sr. Mary Martin provided a booklet of the Litany of Dominican Saints and Blesseds for each Sister and it was a regular sight to see Sisters staying after Office, especially Compline, asking the intercession of all our Heavenly Brothers and Sisters. You can find the Litany HERE. We had to update it and add a few more saints bringing the total of invocations to about 160!

We learned back in early June that in God’s great mercy our prayers were being answered and that it had to do with the Anglican question but had no idea of how momentous this actually was.

Saint Dominic must be happy, indeed, that his family had such a direct involvement in this project, the Friars laboring and praying while the Nuns “bent the ear” of Lord more in the silence of their beautiful cloisters. (This is Dominicana at its best. The Nuns are OPs, too — yes, preachers; they “preach” by their quiet life of prayer.) I hope they keep praying, because the Dark Lord and his useful idiots will try to stop this measure from having the full impact it could have.

And since it’s had such good success so far: Oh, Sisters… could you pray that litany for me?
