Apocalyptic Scenario: Could We Survive Off the Land? We May Have to

Hilary White mentions Triffids. Other than Tom Swift’s novels, I did read the 1951 sci-fi novel, The Day of the Triffids, when I was in about the seventh grade. It was circulating around our grammar school and, to be “on the in,” one had to read it. By then we had graduated from the Hardy Boys. At least it kept us literate. Ms. White also makes mention of NFL star Jason Brown who gave up his football career to go into farming. Brown donates almost all his produce to local food banks. And he is very happy. Let us pray that he meets a good Catholic and comes into the Church.

Hilary White, for The RemnantI think I’ve mentioned that my favourite genre of film is Apocalypse. The Bomb, zombies (supernatural and viral), robots, AI super-computers, vampires, pandemic viruses, asteroids, comets, volcanoes, the sudden totally unexplained failure of all plant life (which is as close to an explanation as we got from The Most Depressing Book/Movie Ever Made Road), talking apes, pod-people aliens, tripod aliens, Triffids, long-forgotten buried dormant dragons, total economic collapse due to Evil Capitalists (too numerous to link), sudden ice ages triggered by industrial emissions reducing the salinity of the Gulf Stream (science!!), sudden unexplained plant-sentience (not making that one up, “They’re mean, they’re green and they’re mad as hell…”), titanic reversals of the earth’s polarity, titanic reversals of the earth’s magma layer, overpopulation, underpopulation, and rampant Terry Gilliam… I love ’em all.
