Need some comic relief. This is a doozy. The atheist Communist government of China wants the right to say who the next reincarnation of Buddha is. It’s their tradition, say the atheists. The Dalai Lama had dubbed some little tyke to be the reincarnation of his number two man, Panchen Lama, but the Reds put the poor boy under house arrest and named their own reincarnated one for the number two spot. Tibetans are furious about that. So, as it stands now, the Dalai Lama is refusing to be reborn unless China’s government leaves the Tibetans alone. Good for you Mr. Lama, that’s what I say. Just don’t come back at all, get rid of the Buddha persona altogether when you die and just evaporate into the cosmos — that’ll teach those goons in Beijing. Let them anoint their own Dalai Lama.
