Cardinal Kasper Denies Anti-African Comments, Journalist Posts Recording

That a progressivist who routinely denies the Catholic Faith and common sense in favor of liberalism and modernism was caught making xenophobic comments to a journalist about African bishops is news. That he denied making the comments is also news. And that the interviewer, Edward Pentin, can produce a recording of the comments is even more news.

Sadly, Zenit news agency has seen fit to black out this news and make a reporter look bad by pulling down the initial story after the Cardinal’s denial, but Mr. Pentin’s own blog preserves not only the transcript, but also the audio of the interview which he recorded on his iPhone, which he claims was in plain site of Cardinal Kasper and other journalists.

The quip of the day must go to Matthew Schmitz, who responded to a progressivist defense of Kaspar by Commonweal’s Grant Gallicho with these words (emphasis mine):

Gallicho’s choice to take to the pages of Commonweal to lavish praise on the remarks suggests something that anyone who watches Church politics begins to suspect: Catholicism is now second only to Sufism in the central role accorded to spin.
