Catholicism.org Gets DDoS Attack from China and Brazil

The site was briefly down today due to malicious activity. Our provider tells us we sustained a DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attack from a range of IPs primarily from Brazil and China. A DDoS attack is a hostile maneuver whereby numerous IPs send requests to your site all at once in order to bring it down.

Unfortunately, we had to block China’s and Brazil’s IP range from accessing our site. So now, we have our own “Great Firewall of China [and Brazil].”

Hopefully, we can be back online in China and Brazil soon.
