CTSA Liberals Feeling a Bit Guilty for Being Soooo Exclusive

The Catholic Theological Society of America is not “Catholic.” It is run by liberals who scoff at members who defend Church teaching. Liberals dominate the Board, or, I should say, totally are the Board. Speakers that represent the CTSA are all liberal. Conservatives (pardon the term as it is ambivalent nowadays) are simply not invited to speak at CTSA sponsored events. Now the liberal bosses on top want to be a little more “inclusive” with the “right,” such reads their own latest internal report. You see, it is good PR to be somewhat honest.

Sorry, but all I see is self-righteous, condescending, phariseeism. When I read the following article all I could think of was how far things have deteriorated in the Church when the news I’ve mentioned in general terms above is lauded as something “encouraging.” Such is the evaluation given by a “conservative” spiritual theologian, Angelicum-educated (i.e., Thomistic), Dr. Anthony Lilles. “Encouraging”? A more encompassing diversity of opinion in matters of Faith and morals is “encouraging”? As Brother Francis put it back in 1974, “Are we Catholics or Hegelians”? when he was encouraged by Bishop Flanagan of Worcester to be a voice from the “right” within the Church and spread devotion to Mary, rather than keeping the dogma of no salvation outside the Church alive. It’s a “dead horse,” the bishop told him, “just bury it.”

Here’s the beginning of the article: A spiritual theology professor has said that an internal report acknowledging the Catholic Theological Society of America excludes more-orthodox and conservative thinkers is regrettable, yet an opportunity for change in the group.

The National Catholic Reporter recently published a May 15 report of the Catholic Theological Society of America’s committee on theological diversity, which said, “the self-conception of many members that the CTSA is open to all Catholic theologians is faulty and self-deceptive.”

“As one of our members put it, the CTSA is a group of liberal theologians and ‘this permeates virtually everything … because the CTSA does not aspire to be a partisan group, both attitudes and practices will have to shift if the CTSA is to become the place where all perspectives within Catholic theology in North America are welcome,” the report continued.
