Liberal Irish Priests Form Association With Radical Agenda

Our Church in Ireland is deflated and full of apathy. We are living in a spiritual desert almost. We need Holy Priests full of enthusiasm for their faith and who are loyal to the teachings of the Church. There is a hunger for the truth. We don’t need and we don’t want the liberal agenda in our Church…it will lead us nowhere. The liberal agenda does not belong in our Church. The Church is about teaching the Truth which is Christ to a world that needs Him so badly.

We need Christ and we need to hear the voices of the faitfhul who are suffering and are fed up with a watered down Catholicism which has pervaded our Church in Ireland for far too long. I and many others have had enough. We hope and pray that the Apostolic Visitation will breathe new life, energy and enthusiasm for our Church which we so desperately need.

I take the opposite viewpoint to that of Frances. The main problem in Ireland is that the teachings of Vatican II have been only partially implemented. The clergy, at the time of the Council, were badly prepared for the event, did not understand its spirit, and did not avail of further formation in order to educate themselves and their parishioners. As a consequence, implementation only happened at a superficial level. The people were fed stale bread. This superficiality could not withstand the child abuse and coverup scandals of recent years and people have voted with their feet. I applaud what the new association of priests is attempting to do. The task is great, the labourers are few but the harvest is also great and worth working for. I hope and pray that the forthcoming visitation will have the wisdom to recognise the importance of this new beginning and encourage the endeavour.
