Saint Leo IX (1054)

He was the one hundred and fifty-fourth Pope. He was the cousin of an emperor. He was imprisoned by the Normans whom he eventually changed into protectors of the Holy See. He died before the high altar of Saint Peter’s in Rome. He was a friend and ally of the future great Pope, Saint Gregory VII, the famous Benedictine monk, Hildebrand.
