More on Sudanese Catholic Refugee Meriam Ibrahim

I had posted her story from Life News here three years ago when she was granted asylum in New Hampshire. What follows is a recap and update from World Watch Monitor. Her name is given both as Mariam and Meriam. As we read her story let us remember to pray for Asia Bibi who, for her Catholic Faith, is now in her eighth year of captivity in Pakistan.

Three years ago today, a young Sudanese mother was freed from prison after narrowly escaping being hanged, first having been lashed 100 times for adultery. The delay on carrying out Mariam Ibrahim’s double sentence was due only to the fact that she was heavily pregnant: Islamic law (Sharia) required that she first give birth (to her daughter Maya) – while shackled to a prison bed.
