Two days before Brother André Marie penned his The Persecution of the Church in Iraq: We Were Warned, Christopher Ferrara posted The Church is Chastised in Iraq, Courtesy of the United States of America. Let us take this opportunity to agree with the counselor from New Jersey. The Philosopher is as patriotic an American as any. He loves these United States. But he does not love “my country, right or wrong”! If a red-blooded American cannot condemn his government for wrong-doing, then what the heck did we fight for against the Crown?

The headline of Martin Chulov’s story for guardian.co.uk (3 November 2010), in the wake of the slaughter of more than 50 Catholics in Baghdad’s Our Lady of Salvation Church, says it all: “Resurgent al-Qaida threatens Christians in Iraq with ‘destruction’.”

Resurgent al-Qaida… in Iraq? Seven years after George Bush declared “Mission Accomplished” on the deck of an aircraft carrier, it seems the mission has been accomplished — that is, if the mission was to make Iraq safe for terrorists and deadly for Christians. If memory serves, however, the mission was supposed to be ridding Iraq of the threat of terrorism. But now al-Qaida, which had no presence in Iraq before the American invasion of 2003, is resurgent there today. [Read more…]
