Wow, you sorry thing. I can't believe the racist, ageist crap you posted here. Maybe you should go back to Europe in the middle ages where you obviously would have been much happier. That is if you survived the plague and the inquisition and had enough to eat.

By the way, I am one of the people who, in your final thought number 1, hoped wouldn't read this article. For I like classical music and I like Michael Jackson but would not, as you say be indifferent to what kind of music I had on a desert island. I like many kinds of music. Classical is my favorite but I don't believe that it has a monopoly on good music. My favorite composer happens to be Chopin.

Tell me what the justification of souls through Christ's death and ressurection, and the moral teachings of Christ of loving God and neighbor have to do with impressionist and expressionist art, Bach and Mozart, and Michael Jackson. Christ didn't come to tell us how to paint or what kind of music to listen to. What specifically from our faith informs you that, for example, French Impressionist painting is bad or immoral? And is the Church really opposed to the Classical Liberal philosophy that came out of the Enlightenment? Didn't you know that that philosophy influenced our Founding Fathers in drafting the Constitution, and our system of government is derived from it? I believe religious faith is not concerned with such things of our physical existence, but of the things to come in Heaven. And what prepares us for Heaven? Choosing to listen to or not listen to Michael Jackson or choosing to act justly toward our neighbor and so be in right relationship with God?

Mr. Nichols:

I have an M.A. in European History. No big thing because many people have M.A. degrees in history, and many have PhD degrees. However, since you believe I am "not educated in history", what are your academic credentials or pretensions? I will debate with you any time.

"Throughout history until modern time, the ideas, principles and beliefs of all civilizations derived from religion."

Not completely. Culture is defined by race and religion. Religion is a part but race also defines. Race matters. And sometimes it is race that defines religion. The natural law is "a combination of different elements". Reducing all to "just religion" is monomaniacalism.

All of the examples Mr. Sifdol gives of the Wests decadent culture and its crimes come solely from the 20th century. Now obviously Mr. Sifdol is not educated in history because anyone who is would not count the inhabitants of the 20th century as "Christians" no matter how often they went to church or played bingo. The moment of decline of the West began in the Renaissance, even before the Protestant Reformation. It has taken us 500 years to reach this low point and it may take us that long to crawl out of the cesspool we now find ourselves in. But please don't blame Christianity for the 20th century. The seeds of decay were sown long ago.

I meant Johnny Cash of course.

The mispelling would be a sin to those who watched "Walk the Line" more than once. What a wonderful person Johnny was, dumping his first wife and kids for wife of his life #2. However, this should not be called divorce or adultery, muchless a sin. No folks, it should be called serial monogamy.
