This Is Good to Read, from Cardinal Dolan

Catholic World News quotes Cardinal Dolan saying some very spot-on words regarding contraception in light of the HHS Mandate:

Cardinal Dolan conceded that the Catholic Church has “an internal catechetical challenge—a towering one—in convincing our own people of the moral beauty and coherence of what we teach.” He went on to say that the problem can be attributed to a failure of Church leaders to preach clearly about contraception. “We have gotten gun-shy,” he said.

The problem has been aggravated by the sex-abuse crisis, the cardinal said. He said the scandal “intensified our laryngitis over speaking about issues of chastity and sexual morality.”

The “teachable moment” we’ve spoken of is still here. (As Gary Potter has recently told us.) His Eminence has spoken of the “challenge” of convincing Catholic of the moral beauty and coherence of Church teaching. Moreover, he’s acknowledged that the clergy have been “gun-shy” and have had “laryngitis … speaking about issues of chastity and sexual morality.”

Now, let’s hear the guns blast and the throats roar.
