Vatican Expresses ‘Grave Concern’ Over Missing Underground Bishop

Along with Bishop Peter Shao Zhumin of Wenzhou, two other elderly Underground Bishops had not been heard of for many years, one of whom recently died in 2015 at ninety-four. They are Bishop James Su Zhimin, arrested in 1997 (he spent forty years total in prison before that) and the late Bishop Cosmas Shi Enxiang of Yixian, who was arrested for the third time in 2001 (he spent fifty years total in and out of prisons and labor camps). Authorities deny knowing anything about Bishop Su or Bishop Shao’s whereabouts.

Catholic Culture: The Holy See has expressed “grave concern” over the plight of Bishop Peter Shao Zhumin of Wenzhou. The prelate, whose ministry is recognized by the Holy See but not by the Chinese government, has been detained by Communist officials, and his whereabouts are unknown. More here with link to AsiaNews.
