Antonio: The incident is reported in Theodore Maynard's Orestes Brownson (p. 140). It must have been before Buchanan's presidency.

"One day Mr. Brownson was in the national capital, Washington, D.C. He was engaged in a lively religious discussion with President James Buchanan and John C. Calhoun, the famous southern leader, when Daniel Webster suddenly joined the group."

James Buchanan was President from 1857 to 1861. Webster died in 1852 and Calhoun in 1850. Is this incident authentic - if so, it obviously happened long before Buchanan was elected President. Or maybe it was some other President?
