Bishop Alfonso de Galarreta of the SSPX has expressed dismay regarding the Holy Father’s appointment of Bishop Gerhard Ludwig Mueller as Prefect of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith (what had been the Holy Office), a dismay that should be shared by all traditionalist Catholics. The Church’s Grand Inquisitor denies the Blessed Mother’s perpetual virginity, among other equally egregious heresies, as well as holds a plethora of unacceptable — e.g., pro-homosexual — views? Is this a joke? I don’t hear anyone laughing…except, out there in the dark, a faint, but my-blood-runneth-cold, chortle.

I second the testimony of Tomas de Torquemada.
If the pearl of Divine and Catholic Faith means anything to us at all we should admonish the pope strenuously for the damage done to the Faith by this appointment. This is truly deplorable. A person who should have been investigated and condemned by the Holy Office is now put in charge. I am not sede vacante but I certainly understand those who are.
To tacticly support and promote an attacker of the Blessed Mother! Wow! What remains to be seen? Where are the Catholic knights to free us from this invasion of “worse than moslem” filth? To remain silent on this is to fail miserably in the virtue of charity.
I feel sorry as well for any holy person who is canonized under this pontificate. How would you like to be found worthy of the title “Blessed” by the same pope who saw fit to promote such a vile heretic.

According to a number of documented comments (not hearsays) I could read elsewhere about him, I understood that Bp Mueller holds very heterodox views on some serious dogmatic issues. Is it possible that our Holy Father might be kept so unaware about the men he appoints to important tasks in the RCC such as the head of the CDF?
Now the talks to resume nextly, if they ever resume between the SSPX and the Vatican, are heading straight into a dead end.
That’s unprecedented: The discussions will now occur between a schismatic group and a heretic: Very interesting indeed! and very sad for the Church: Obviously the odds they will succeed look to be now almost equal to zero. The Devil must rejoice: He didn’t hope so much. His agents in the Vatican did a lot of good work !

John, I wonder… are you alluding to… blessed John Paul II? The late Pope was not that controversial, although…

To whomever it applies. I was stating a principle. To my knowledge, the power of the keys is not engaged when someone is declared Blessed. I would even question canonizations if I suspected a fundamental alteration, anywhere in the process, that brought the engagement of the power of the keys into question. I have too many other responsibilities at present to spend time investigating details but I would welcome any scholarly work done on the subject. (Please no dimond brothers etc,…)

John, I was just a bit ironical because I reckon that JPII’s beatification was made too hastily and because our late Holy Father wasn’t beyond criticism. I hope that the canonization trial, if it ever opens will be fairer in particular for what concerns the Devil’s advocate rights. (Oops, I forgot that JPII himself cancelled this job).

I don’t think that Pope Benedict allows the head of the CDF to speak much for him as under the previous Pope JP2 allowed Cardinal Ratzinger to theologize alot.

Perhaps the Holy Father should engage in a new ‘hermeneutic of continuity’ to explain why the ostensibly heretical musings of Bishop Muller are in fact quite orthodox.
