Who Am I?

I was a slave from Colossae in Phyrgia.

I fled from my master and came to Rome around the year 60.

While in Rome I met the Apostle Paul and was converted by him to Christ.

My master was also converted by Paul long before I was.

I was not on good terms with my master when I left his house with a sum of unearned money.

The Apostle wanted me to help him while he was in prison and minister to other faithful in Rome; however he decided, for my good, that I go back to Colossae instead.

I accompanied Tychicus who carried a letter from the Apostle to the Church in Colossae. There I was reunited with my master who received me as a brother in Christ. I was martyred there together with him, during Nero’s persecution, in the year 68.

There is another saint, also a martyr, who has the same name as I. He was a bishop of Ephesus and was slain for the Faith in Rome in the year 95.
