The Obama administration continues to insult the pope in its choices of candidates for U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican, each of whom (three so far) have been rejected by Pope Benedict. A State can reject an ambassador, but protocol usually goes along as a formality. Not so with Benedict XVI. Abortion is now the major issue in Rome’s dealings with the United States and this pope is not going to accept a “Catholic” ambassador who is pro-abortion. Yes, Ray Flynn was accepted in 1993, when Bill Clinton nominated him for the post, even though he was one of those I-cannot-inflict-my-personal-beliefs-about-abortion-on-my-constituents “Catholic” politicians. But all of Obama’s choices are “Catholics” who make no such claim to be personally opposed to abortion. Not that Flynn was any better on the issue, in fact such mealy mouth hypocrisy is worse than smash mouth honesty. Let’s pray that the Holy Father stands his ground. Rumor has it that Caroline Kennedy may be next on the list.
WASHINGTON (Catholic Online) – An Italian Newspaper has reported that a new Ambassador to Italy is going to be named, Obama-donor David Thorne, the former brother-in-law of John Kerry. “Panorama” reporter Carlo Rosella also predicted that the Caroline Kennedy would be picked as the next candidate for Ambassador to the Vatican.
