Saint John Baptist de Rossi (1764)

This heroic Roman priest was the great apostle to the farm laborers and city workers of Rome and its suburbs. He loved to do work among prisoners, the poor and the illiterate. He preached to simple folk at all hours of the day. He visited them in their hospitals and in their homes. He was given permission to hear confessions at any time in any one of the churches in Rome, and penitents constantly came to him. Saint John Baptist de Rossi is known as “the apostle of the abandoned.” He was sixty-six years old when he died.
