Where Have the Real Men Gone?

I had occasion recently to be on a college campus. Approaching my appointed destination, I was greeted by a crowd of demonstrators, who happened to be protesting against the event I was attending (that event is a story for another day). The demonstrators were leftists advancing a rainbow agenda of hyper-political correctness on a campus where various “GLBT” organizations and “gay pride” groups abound, and … More →

Catholic Truth and the Salvation of Souls are at Stake

“I believe the Vatican Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews owes those of us in the dialogue some explanation of how the theologies behind the two prayers can stand together, and whether Cardinal Kasper’s often-quoted statement that Jews should not be the subject of proselytizing because they have authentic revelation and are already in a valid covenantal relationship with God. Does the new papal … More →

The Good Friday Prayer for the Jews

Let us pray, and also for the Jews: May our God and Lord enlighten their hearts, so that they may acknowledge Jesus Christ, saviour of all men. Let us kneel… Almighty and Everlasting God, who desirest that all men be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth; mercifully grant that, as the fullness of the Gentiles enters into Thy Church, all Israel may … More →

Avery Cardinal Dulles and Salvation

It is no secret that Father Avery Dulles, S.J., the Jesuit theologian created Cardinal in 2001, was, before his entrance into the Society of Jesus in 1946, a founder of the original Saint Benedict Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Wikipedia article on him mentions this in passing. While Father Dulles retained an obvious respect and even love for Father Feeney (as attested in an article … More →

Ecumenical Monologue

Yesterday, the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, the community finished the Chair of Unity Octave. We prayed the beautiful prayers found in a traditional prayer book for the eight days of prayer for Church unity. This is a devotion given to the Church by the great convert and founder of the Friars of the Atonement, Father Paul Wattson. The Octave took place from … More →

Ecumenical Dialogue

A couple of days ago, I saw this headline on the Spero News site: “East-West reconciliation on Filioque?” As I am interested in the doctrinal and pastoral ramifications implicit in such a question, I clicked on it and read. I was disappointed.

Epiphany Octave

The Feast of the Epiphany, which the Church celebrated yesterday, formerly had an octave. Although the octave was suppressed in the 1962 Rite, even the rubrics promulgated in that year still recognize the “ghost” of the octave, inasmuch as certain Epiphany features of the Divine Office and Mass show up in the liturgy during these days.

Christmas, the Antichrist, and Catholic Triumphalism

For almost 2,000 years, the Church has been defending Christmas against a concerted, diabolical attack. No, it’s not another wacko conspiracy theory; it’s a fact. Since the Word was made flesh and dwelt amongst us, the truth that God was born a Baby at Christmas has been assaulted with relentless demonic fury. Saint John, the very Apostle of Love, tells us: “For many seducers are … More →

Christmas and the Catholic Thing

The Roman statesman Cato the Elder (234-149 BC) gave us the pithy Latin proverb rem tene verba sequentur, “grasp the thing and the words will follow.” The lesson is this: once you sufficiently grasp the concept you wish to speak about (the thing), the words will flow with greater ease.

Hope in God, not the World; Spe Salvi

The Holy Father’s latest encyclical, Spe Salvi, was published on Friday, the Feast of Saint Andrew. Releasing it as he did just before Advent, the Pope Benedict seems to be consciously presenting us with an Advent theme. This is appropriate enough, for Advent is the season of hope par excellence. Some comments on this latest offering of the Holy Father will follow. First, I would … More →

Concerning Palantíri and Blogses: Technology without Grace

A recent news story from the Los Angeles Times tells of a multi-level tragedy that reveals once again the the depravity of fallen human nature in its technologically-enhanced destructive ugliness. In brief, a teenage girl who was subject to depression was befriended by a sixteen-year-old boy online. After the six-week Internet friendship had developed to a point of apparent emotional attachment, the boy turned on … More →

False Ecumenism Takes a Formidable Beating

The following is reproduced from the web site of Professor Enrico Maria Radaelli. It is a review by Corrado Trinci O.M.R.I., of Professor Radaelli’s own book: The Mystery of the Blindfolded Synagogue. The Professor is an author who should be known to us. A student of Romano Amerio’s and a serious intellectual critic of ecclesial novelties, he has earned the respect of some well-placed ecclesiastics. … More →

Saint Josaphat, Apostle of Eastern Catholic Unity

Some years ago, Brother Francis wrote an article combining the history of today’s saint with that of Saint Andrew Bobola: Two Patrons for True Ecumenism. Towards the end of that article is an excerpt from Abbot Guéranger’s Liturgical Year. These brief prophetical utterances are worth pondering in our days, when the Moslem menace is such a threat to former Christendom, and when we await the … More →

“The Father Feeney Archive”: A Disclaimer

I was recently informed that “The Father Feeney Archive” is back online. Don’t let the name fool you. The web master is no friend of Father Feeney or Saint Benedict Center. In an email sent to his list, the site’s web master says, “We shall be adding a Fr. Feeney Forum soon so that all the issues can be debated openly and freely.”

The Center in the News: “Chronicle”

Last Thursday night, Boston’s WCVB TV aired a controversy concerning Saint Benedict Center on their news magazine, “Chronicle.” This is why we posted a welcome message to Chronicle viewers to our main site and our SBC-Richmond Blog. What did we think of the show? It was good, considering. Considering what, you ask?
