Fr. Emil Kapaun One Step Closer to Beatification

Seasons of Grace, Kathy Schiffer: Pope Francis is one step closer to considering the sainthood cause of Father Emil Kapaun, a military chaplain who died in a prison camp during the Korean War. On June 21, consultants of the Vatican Congregation for the Causes of Causes approved the historical documents which had been submitted last November by the Diocese of Wichita. The panel of six historical consultants found the documents, presented as part of the “positio” or position paper, to be complete and accurate. More here.

    Out of the hell and terror of war, a good comes to light. It seems Mr. Funchess is quite the hero himself, sacrificing for Fr. Kapaun, as well, I’m sure, for other prisoners. As an aside, my father-in-law — passed away over a year ago now — was a POW in North Korea for 28 months. From what info I have seen, he, too, was quite the selfless one who helped other prisoners stay alive. He was non-Catholic. May God have mercy on them all…
