Ordination of Women ‘Not on the Table at the Moment’

And this from the Archbishop of Dublin. The inquiry had to do with ordaining married men, which is another issue. It is astonishing that a prelate of the Church cannot just say that the ordination of women has been declared invalid, and definitively so, by Pope John Paul II. End of discussion. No “table” ever can entertain it in the true Church. But, then again, this is just another issue. As long as the impression is given that the thrice defined dogma “no salvation outside the Church” can mean whatever one wants it to mean, then, so too, Pope John Paul II’s definitive rejection of the validity of orders for women can mean whatever one wants it to mean, be it even that the ordination of women is ““not on the table at the moment.” 

The Tablet: The Archbishop of Dublin has signalled his openness to a discussion on the ordination of married men as priests.

Speaking after Easter Sunday ceremonies, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin referred to comments by Bishop Erwin Kräutler of Xingu in Brazil, that were reported in The Tablet. Bishop Kräutler said that Pope Francis is open to hearing suggestions from bishops’ conferences across the world on ordaining viri probati (men of proven character). Read more here.
