Catholics the world over have been disturbed, scandalized, and galvanized by the Amazon Synod of October 2019. Since a complete theological analysis of this event would take many lectures, here I focus on four major aspects of it: first, the repeated violations of the first Commandment that took place at the Vatican; second, true and false concepts of inculturation; third, the proposal to abolish mandatory clerical celibacy; and fourth, the proposal to ordain female deacons or deaconesses.
