Advisory on Father Michael Jarecki’s Health

Father Michael Jarecki was our chaplain for about 20 years. Since our new resident priest arrived on November 1, Father has ceased offering Mass, as his infirmities made it very difficult for him to get through the ritual.

About a fortnight ago, Father Jarecki started to move much more slowly that usual. Then, early in the morning of Friday, January 7, he began to show some very alarming symptoms, so much so that Father Phillipson administered Extreme Unction and Holy Viaticum. Although the initial fright of Friday is over, we consider this little warning to be an indication that our old chaplain will not last too long in this veil of tears. He is now almost completely bed-bound. The brothers have been working with a team of nurses to see to Father’s care, and he is never without someone watching him.

Father Jarecki is 93 years old. He has manfully served the Church during very difficult years, and has been loyal to the Mass of his Ordination. We ask all to pray for Father’s holy death, and that we who care for him will be able to do so in the spirit of the Visitation.
