A Baptist war veteran in the 1861-65 conflict, who became an alcoholic, quit drinking, converted to the Faith, and subsequently explored a religious vocation, has been put on the path to canonization. A Wisconsin native, the Servant of God, Joseph Dutton, became a disciple and imitator of Saint Damien de Veuster in Hawaii:
(Matt Swaim, The Coming Home Network) — In January of 2024, the sainthood cause of Joseph Dutton concluded its local phase of exploration in the Diocese of Honolulu, meaning that he became officially recognized by the Catholic Church as a Servant of God. If miracles are approved through his intercession, he would be the third person from Hawaii to become a canonized saint.
