Communion in the Hand, Priest Facing People — May be History

These are just a couple of  innovations that may be changed back to the former rubrics in Pope Benedict’s plan to restore the sacred to the Western liturgy.   There have been conflicting reports about these discussions at the Congregation for Divine Worship, and about the accuracy of source of the news, but Phil Lawler of CWN has the news about the news about the “reform of the reform.”

Last week CWN passed along the report, originally made public by Andrea Tornielli of the Italian daily Il Giornale, that the Congregation for Divine Worship had presented Pope Benedict with a list of possible steps that could be taken to restore a sense of the sacred in the liturgy: to inaugurate the long-awaited “reform of the reform.” The Vatican press office denied the accuracy of the Tornielli report, and CWN dutifully reported on that statement as well.  Read full article here.
