Dallas Bishop Intends to Keep Catholic University of Dallas Orthodox

This used to be one of the more conservative Catholic colleges in the US, at least back in the 1970s when, I believe, the Cistercians were in charge. They had a good philosophy department when the late Doctor Frederick Daniel Wilhelmsen was on staff. Now their motto reads: A Catholic University for Independent Thinkers — whatever that means.

Catholic Culture: The board of trustees of the University of Dallas has unanimously approved a new undergraduate major in pastoral ministry. Some of the program’s faculty members, according to Patrick Fagan, have engaged in a troubling “pattern of dissent” from the teaching of the Church.

“I am aware that some concerns have been pointed out about whether or not the School of Ministry and this course of study is to be truly orthodox,” said Bishop Kevin Farrell of Dallas. “Let me remind the Catholic people of the diocese that that is my responsibility and I’m the one who has to stand before God.
