Ecuador and Venezuela Shutting Down Radio Stations

Some of these are being taken over by the government.  Any telecommunications medium that is critical of the totalitarian regimes of presidents Chavez and Correa has been shut down or shortly will be.  Thirty-four radio stations so far have been put off the air, about 170 more are expected to have their licenses revoked.

Catholic Online reports: According to CNN, the number could grow to 200 stations in the coming week. Venezuela’s public works minister, Diosdado Cabello, reported to CNN reported that the 34 stations were closed for letting their permits expire, failing to update their registration, or broadcasting with licenses issued to individuals no longer living.  Read article here.
