Has the Transgender Movement Overplayed Its Hand?

Writing for LifeSiteNews, Jonathon Van Maren tells his readers that, the “transgender movement has overplayed its hand and the world is finally getting wise to it.” But he also issued this caveat in his very opening words: “It is too early to declare victory just yet….” Including that caveat was wise. I do not think that we can declare victory.

Let me explain.

In revolutions, it is often under the more “conservative” revolutionaries that the progress made by the radical revolutionaries gets successfully embedded in a society, even if the more fringe aspects of the radical agenda get trimmed off in the process. Recall, please, that the terms “right wing” and “left wing” originate in the post-Revolutionary French National Assembly. The “conservatives” were seated on the right hand of the president’s seat and the “liberals” were on the left. But they were all revolutionaries.

Something analogous is happening in American politics now.

We have a “conservative” president-elect soon to be in the White House. But he’s on the “right wing” of our national liberalism. Why do I say that? I’ll focus only on one reason: he’s all in with the sexual revolution, including on the transgender issue (and abortion, too, really).

Look at the picture below:

There is our conservative president-elect standing with Bruce Jenner, a man who is deluded into thinking he’s a woman. But at least he’s a Republican man deluded into thinking he’s a woman; that’s OK, right?

Now, I think Bruce, like Donald Trump himself, is against mutilating children surgically or chemically. Bruce made his choice to embrace his own personal delusion as a mature man — or at least as a man of majority age. So, the extreme progressives who want to force boys into girl’s locker rooms and such would think that Bruce, like Donald, is mean, and they are outraged. Because of that progressive outrage, some principled conservatives, who fail to see the careful distinctions made, assume that these conservative revolutionaries are really on our side. They’re not.

Donald Trump is all in with homosexuality. He has no problem with it. His campaign featured prominent homosexuals (e.g., Peter Theil) and he has appointed one to head up the Treasury Department. By contrast, listen to Patrick J. Buchanan’s famous “Culture War” speech at the 1992 Republican National Convention. That was conservatism in the early nineties. Is that what conservatism will remain in four years? Is that conservatism today?

No, we’ve come a long way, baby. And it’s quite the wrong way.

I’m not faulting Van Maren for seeing some good in the blow-back to the left-wing extremism. What I am doing is making readers mindful of the fact that the game of push-me-pull-you that is American politics is tugging all of us to insanity if we’re not careful.

What we need are principles, iron clad ones — and the men who will hold on to them no matter what. The art of the deal does not cut it.

(Jonathon Van Maren/LifeSiteNews) — It is too early to declare victory just yet, but the transgender movement is definitely having a very bad year. As I noted recently, there is a good case to be made that transgender activists won the election for Donald Trump — and Democrats know it. In fact, many more moderate liberals are on the warpath, demanding to know why the Left is beholden to a handful of men in skirts and LGBT extremists. Last week, for example, an irate Bill Maher took on Neil DeGrasse Tyson, who identifies as a science expert.

Maher noted that progressives have discredited themselves by refusing to admit that there are real biological differences between males and females, and that these differences matter in sports. No matter how hard he pushed, Tyson ducked and weaved and tried to use what he clearly thought were witty responses to avoid answering the question. The exchange ended with Maher finally telling Tyson: “Well, I’m going to file you under ‘part of the problem.’” Watch for yourself — it’s a great bit of TV …

More common, however, was the response of John Oliver, the alleged comedian who hosts “Last Week Tonight.” Oliver has been all-in on the transgender agenda for quite some time, and he was close to despair, yelling at his audience that only weird people care about this issue (yeah, you’re telling us), that there is “no evidence” of any issues with males playing in female sports, and that the issue of “safety” is also merely a bigoted illusion…
