Beginning on Monday, I will be on a pilgrimage to Spain that will cover 1200 miles: from Madrid to Zaragoza, Agreda, Burgos, Covadonga, Oviedo, Santiago de Compostela, and Avila, visiting shrines of Mary, mystics and saints, and tombs of heroes of the Reconquista. The Traditional Latin Mass will be celebrated every day by the Pilgrimage’s chaplain, whose ordination I had the good pleasure to attend several years ago.
Given the name of my radio show and all that name represents, as well as my Spanish ancestry (surname: Villarrubia), this pilgrimage is something of a dream for me, one I never would have expected to come true. The very first episode of Reconquest was on Don Pelayo and the beginning of the Reconquista. In a few days, Deo volente, I will be at Don Pelayo’s tomb!
The pilgrimage includes the last 100 kilometers (64+ miles) of the Camino de Santiago, too.
Thanks to the generosity of a wonderful benefactor, whose idea it was to have me go on this pilgrimage, my way is paid and I’m getting ready to leave.
I do not know what the logistics will be as far as my ability to write and publish anything for Catholicism.org while I am in Spain, but I would like to give our readers some details of what I’ve learned and experienced in this wonderful pilgrimage.
Our friends and benefactors will be in my prayers on this journey.
