Italian Statesman and Economist, Head of Catholic Action, to be Beatified

Called by one bishop “the prophet of Rerum Novarum,” Catholic economist and sociologist Giuseppe Toniolo led an incredible life of labor for the rights of the exploited poor, small businessmen, farmers, and factory workers. An enemy of freemasonry, the statesman was most importantly a man of prayer, who loved the Church and fought in governmental office for her liberty and exaltation.
