A Lithuanian-born nun who founded an American religious communtiy was among those declared venerable by Pope Benedict on July 1. Born in 1880, Venerable Maria Kaupas came to Pennsylvania in 1905 and founded the Sisters of Saint Casimir in 1907. She died 1940.
