National Catholic Register Shocks and Stuns

Last Spring, I was contacted by a journalist who writes for various Catholic publications. She had an interest in the subject of courtship and had read some materials we published on the issue. Favorably impressed with what she read, she requested an interview with me. A few email exchanges later, we scheduled a telephone appointment. She and I spoke for an hour or more, if memory serves.

Then there was some email follow up, culminating in this message from her:

I am stunned that all of your interview was cut from my article. I feel that before the edit, my article was stronger. … At some point, I would like to publish my article in full when I get around to setting up a blog… .

I apologize for all of this. …

The newspaper she was writing for was the National Catholic Register, the same one that recently censored Pat Archbold, as told below by Gloria.TV News.

Whereas Archbold was “shocked” by what NCR did him, the journalist that contacted me was “stunned.” Both of these are professional writers, not authors of letters to the editor, so their reactions to the ham-handed editing mean something. Now, two instances does not a habit make, of course, but it is not unreasonable to assume that such unpleasant journalistic surprises from NCR’s editors (or publishers) derive from a policy of keeping traditionalists as marginalized as possible. Anything intelligent we may say, or anything intelligent and favorable said about us must be silenced.

All the more reason to keep doing what we’re doing, maintain a high level of Catholic pluck and good cheer, and be grateful that we have fewer occasions of vainglory.

(Gloria.TV News) Patrick Archbold published in the National Catholic Register an online article which was removed within minutes. In it he had pleaded that the recent video appeal of Pope Francis vigorously calling for unity between Catholics and Evangelicals be also applied to the SSPX. After the removal Archbold wrote on his website creativeminorityreport.com: “I am still in a state of shock.” The article was removed, — quote – “even though I had advance clearance to run it.”
