NH Victory for Contraception Exemption

CONCORD, N.H. (WMUR) — A bill that would allow employers to deny insurance coverage for contraceptives based on religious beliefs has passed the New Hampshire House.

Supporters said the bill protects religious freedoms, but opponents said it attacks health care for women.

The House gallery was packed with opponents during the debate who often booed or applauded, depending on who was speaking.

The House voted 196-150 to send to the Senate a bill that lets employers deny covering contraception in their health insurance plans based on their own religious beliefs.
