Problem is, the “many” I have in mind, among whom are Cardinals Kung, Slipyj, and Mindzenty, were tortured and imprisoned for many years by Communists. Others worthy of canonization were killed by Communists, but all we have had are beatifications of some of these heroes, not canonizations. Vatican II issued not a word about Communism, in keeping with the 1962 Rome-Moscow Agreement (also called “The Metz Agreement,”) but Vatican II popes get canonized. Meanwhile, the martyrs cry out.

Reallife Catholic:The Korean war was one of the most brutal conflicts in human history. Millions lost their lives in a three year span, many of them from the bitter cold. When the war ended in 1953, a group of American POW’s emerged from the darkness of a prison camp bearing an almost four foot high crucifix made from firewood, with a crown of thorns woven from radio wire.
