Last evening, I arrived back at the Priory after a brief visit with my old friend, Dr. Robert Hickson. The good man is not long for this world. He has had the last rites and the apostolic blessing, which it was my privilege to assist at.
It was very good to be able to pray with him and his family. While he cannot speak — which must be a terrible penance for a man who was highly articulate and had a remarkable way with words — he clearly recognized me, his eyes speaking perhaps more eloquently than words could, and he held my hand for a long time. (Robert was athletic his whole life, and his large, muscular hands still have power in them.)
Please pray for him and his dear wife, Dr. Maike Hickson, and their children.
In your charity: Please keep my husband Robert in your prayers. His health is declining now. He has received all the Church’s blessings and sacraments for the dying, seems very much at peace, no aggravating pain, and in love with God and Our Lady. May God grant him a holy death.
