He was the founder of the Sisters of Charity of Refuge. He was the first great promoter of devotion to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. He dedicated himself by vow to the Blessed Virgin when he was a young boy of fourteen. He became a priest at twenty-four. He has been called one of the greatest missionaries France has ever known. Thousands of people came to listen to Saint John Eudes preach, and thousands were converted. It was due to his influence that the Good Shepherd nuns were founded, patterned after the Sisters of Our Lady of Refuge.
