Saint Lazarus (First Century)

Saint Lazarus was the brother of Saint Mary Magdalen and Saint Martha. He was raised from the dead by Jesus, as we are told in the eleventh chapter of Saint John. He was one of the very first apostles to France. He was driven out of the Holy Land by the Jews and sailed on a boat without sails or oars, with his two sisters and others, and landed on the coast of southern France. He became the first Bishop of Marseilles. He is one of the most loved of all the saints of the Catholic French people. His name appears in landmarks all over France in the French form, Saint Lazare.
