St. John Chapter 20 on the Resurrection

This commentary of Chapter 20 of Saint John is on Christ’s resurrection and manifestation to his disciples.

This is the next to the last chapter of Saint John’s Gospel and it is the story of the Resurrection and the appearances of the Risen Christ to His apostles. Brother Francis uncovers so many easily missed lessons in this account of the beloved apostle.  Why did John stop as he and Peter ran to the empty tomb in order to allow Peter to enter first? He also draws deep food for reflection in what might appear secondary, as, for example, why did Jesus “breath” upon the apostles in giving forth the Holy Spirit and the power to forgive sins. What is this “breathing” between the Son Incarnate and the Third Person of the Trinity?
