St. Lawrence the Deacon Martyr Patron of Miners: Rescue Was Called Operacion San Lorenzo

Speaking of deacons, one blogger noted on Deacon Greg Kandra’s The Deacon’s Bench that the mining company for which the thirty-three men worked is called San Esteban (St. Stephen), the first martyr and a deacon. Too, Greg Hall, the engineer whose company, the Drillers Supply International, drilled the half mile shaft down to the trapped miners will be ordained a deacon this coming February. It took 33 days to drill the shaft to reach the 33 miners. Our Lord lived 33 years in His mortal life on earth. The Holy Father had blessed rosaries for each of the miners and they were delivered by Cardinal Francisco Javier Errazuriz of Santiago, Chile. The recitation of the Rosary became part of their daily routine. It took only 22 hours to bring all the miners up to safety. The first one came out of the shaft a little after midnight on October 13, the date of the last apparition at Fatima, when the miracle of the sun took place.  Surely, of all the Psalms calling upon the Lord for help, the first two verses of Psalm 129, De Profundis, is most appropriate on this joyous occasion:

Out of the depths I have cried unto thee, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice. O let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.
