Yesterday, Donald Trump announced a new policy of his regarding taxpayer funding for in vitro fertilization (IVF), and other forms of federal government support for the practice. A video of that announcement is embedded below. Beneath that is a video produced by ChoiceForTwo, explaining in simple, graphic terms what is wrong with IVF. (The video is disturbing and not for children.)
For those who would like to learn more than what a short cartoon has to say about the matter, here is a summary of the Catholic teaching on IVF; there are further pieces you can read here, here, and here.
The moral abomination of IVF has been condemned by the Church in no uncertain terms. Catholics may not use this technology. (Among other objections to the practice, IVF produces multiple abortions.) From a natural-law perspective, nobody may use it. Catholics who are “pro-family,” must not be taken in by the rhetoric surrounding this announcement, but must reject the policy as anti-life and therefore anti-family. The newly announced policy also constitutes a violation of the rights of the taxpayers whose money is being misappropriated to use for funding something so gravely offensive.
Here is the “new policy alert” that just came from Donald Trump:
🚨 NEW POLICY ALERT 🚨
“I am announcing today that under the Trump administration, your government will pay for or your insurance company will be mandated to pay for all costs associated with IVF treatment.”

IVF is a repugnant evil. It must be banned. Whoever made this video does a great job showing why. pic.twitter.com/JSTVppTXrS
