The single-issue newspaper?

Catholic Culture, Phil Lawler: Today the US Conference of Catholic Bishops chose their new leaders. Here’s the headline for the New York Times report:

U.S. Catholic Bishops Elect Leaders for Anti-Abortion Fight

Technically, Catholic bishops do other things: They administer the sacraments. They preach and teach. They run schools and manage an enormous variety of charitable institutions. Their conference addresses all sorts of public issues—more often than not, agreeing with the editorial slant of the New York Times. Yet from the peculiar perspective of the country’s leading newspaper, the only noteworthy function of the US bishops’ conference is the “anti-abortion fight.”
