To Thérèse

A flower was found
On our well fenced ground
Beside the holy hill.
A flower that did our whole earth round
With a heavenly fragrance fill.

But one fall day
It was taken away
To the court of heaven above,
To delight the King and Queen and to stay
For ever in their love.

So in sorrow we prayed,
And a promise was made,
That showers of flowers will fall.
And fulfillment was not too long delayed,
Was not delayed at all.

For showers did burst
To quench our thirst,
Flowers fell down like dew
And especially one most like the first
Therese, and that was you.
