Turkish Government Called Bishop to Warn Him About Murat Altun Hours before Murder

More news is now in on this terrible murder. Bishop Padovese’s driver, who was appointed for this job by the government four years before, had claimed that he was Catholic. After the warning, Padovese cancelled plane reservations for himself and Murat Altun out of fear that the fired-up jihadist might try to attack the pope. What I am puzzled by is why the Bishop didn’t get himself away from Altun, drove himself to a Catholic friend’s house and get some help, knowing what the government official had just told him about the emotionally taut chauffeur?

CNA reports: An Italian Vatican expert is saying that Bishop Luigi Padovese, Apostolic Vicar of Anatolia and President of the Turkish Bishops’ Conference, canceled his trip to Cyprus because he feared that his driver –who later confessed to killing the bishop- might attempt an attack on Pope Benedict XVI during his stay on the island.
