What is the ‘Catholic Land Movement’ and Why Does it Matter?

Matt Fradd, of “Pints with Aquinas,” produced a very lengthy interview with Dr. Peter Kwasniewski last week, On Music, Art, and the Recovery of the Sacred. Mr. Fradd’s YouTube channel has made available a twelve-minute clip, embedded below, that offers an excellent discussion of the Catholic Land Movement (CLM), its purpose and its principles — with an interesting discussion of what constitutes “modernity” and how both agrarianism and traditionalism effectively oppose it.

The religious here at Saint Benedict Center have been involved with the new Catholic Land Movement for about the last four years, and have made presentations at multiple CLM events. (The “Pints with Aquinas” YouTube thumbnail shows a photo from such an event, with our own Sister Maria Rosaria standing just to the left of Matt Fradd’s head!). The Director of the Catholic Land Movement, Mr. Michael Thomas Giudice, spoke at our annual Conference in 2022 on “Reviving the Catholic Land Movement.”

The CLM, which “exists to facilitate the rural resettlement of Catholics onto productive property which they own,” recently received an Apostolic Blessing from Pope Leo XIV.
