Why the Trumpian Saber Rattling?

President Trump seems to have a mix of America Firsters and war hawks among his advisers. His expressed desire for better relations with Russia and his pre-election remarks concerning a non-interventionist policy in Syria bespeak an anti-war-hawk, non-interventionist policy. On the other hand, his and Gen. Flynn’s remarks on Iran (Russia’s ally) play into the hands of the war hawks in both parties.

His credibility is now on the line.

And what triggered this virtual ultimatum?

Iran-backed Houthi rebels, said Flynn, attacked a Saudi warship and Tehran tested a missile, undermining “security, prosperity, and stability throughout the Middle East,” placing “American lives at risk.”

But how so?
