This is not a common occurrence. The pro-homosexual Dominican and soon to be Cardinal, Father Timothy Radcliffe, has openly engaged with Phil Lawler concerning Lawler’s excellent column, Father Radcliffe blames the Russians — not the Bible.
Father Radcliffe appears less than honest in his objections; but that would contradict one of the great mottoes of the Order of Preachers, would it not? Could it be that he lacks the scholastic clarity of the great Dominicans of old? I will not accuse, but will instead repeat what Phil Lawler himself has written about how his words were represented by Radcliffe: “Readers may judge for themselves….”
That said, we should recall that sin darkens the intellect. This man openly promotes the normalization of homosexuality in the Church. That is unacceptable at every level. Is he at all credible when defending his own criticism of the African Bishops for simply being Catholic on the issue of sodomy?
(Phil Lawler/Catholic Culture) — Father (soon to be Cardinal) Timothy Radcliffe, OP, has objected to my recent post about his article in L’Osservatore Romano, and requested that we post this response:
I am told that there is a report in Catholic Culture which asserts that I said that the African Bishops only oppose the marriage of homosexuals because of Russian money. I would be grateful if you could publish my assertion that this is not true. I do not understand how this misunderstanding could have occurred. I did assert that the Catholic Church in Africa is under tremendous pressure from Evangelicals, now Russian Orthodox and Islam, all supported by financial aid. I did not intend in any way to assert that these African bishops, whom I know and love, took their position for financial reasons, or any other reason than sincere conviction.
Thank you,
Timothy Radcliffe OP
