Defending the Sign of Our Salvation

“European court: 10 nations back Italy in crucifix case,” says CWN. You may remember that, in late 2009, the European Court of Human Rights declared that a crucifix in an Italian classroom is “contrary to parents’ right to educate their children in line with their convictions and to children’s right to freedom of religion.” This led to a sort of pro-Crucifix protest in Italy, with the mayor of the school’s city making a very prominent display of a Crucifix on government property.

The ten nations opposing the Court’s decision are Armenia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Lithuania, Malta, Monaco , Romania, the Russian Federation, and San Marino. Historical Latin Christendom is outnumbered on that list 6-4, a small margin, but significant when one considers that the case under protest pertains to Italy. Is there any wonder the Holy Father wants to forge a “Holy Alliance” with Russia, in order to defend Europe’s Christian heritage? Moreover, if the Holy Father really is reopening the file on Fatima, the ultimate fulfillment of the Virgin’s requests and prophesies concerning Russia may come soon. Then there will be a true “Holy Alliance,” because it will be based on the heavenly reality of Church Unity, not the terrestrial reality of political exigency.
