I was thrilled to learn that my amateur canonical opinion agrees with Dr. Peters’:
Even to propose a three-year Pre-Cana program (Spanish bishops) or to call for a mandatum docendi process for bloggers (Bp Barron) shows a basic misunderstanding of what LAW (canon or civil) is and what it can do. Indeed, it suggests a questionable grasp of some basic realities.

I make no pretense of being a canonist, so “amateur” is certainly the operative word here, and may even be too exalted to be predicated of my infinitesimal canonical knowledge.
However, yesterday, ON AIR with Mike Church, I made the same exact point regarding Bishop Barron’s ridiculous aspiration, and that was before I saw Dr. Peters’ tweet.
